I have tried all writing permutations and suggest that until Apple Notes improve sufficiently (I suspect not far away), select either Goodnotes or Notability - these are by far the best renditions of a satisfying notetaking experience - they are robust and reliable - and suggest that you backup to either GDrive or Onedrive - forget EN for this. I tried for years to be EN centric, but came to the harsh reality that EN is just an excellent storage/knowledge Management and retrieval system. EN should just cut them from their ecosystem. Similarly, Skitch is looking its age and suffering from zero updates. Penultimate has been stagnant for about ten years and, frankly, should be retired. I, too, have struggled with EN’s lack of a handwriting interface.
